Overview

We are looking for experienced Healthcare Assistants to join our dynamic and committed team on Acorn 136 suite, Sherwood Oaks hospital. The 136 suite is a 2 bedded health based place of safety designed to safely contain and assess people who are acutely unwell with a variety of mental health conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of the team undertaking the assessment, care and treatment of patients experiencing an acute mental health crisis, in a recovery‑oriented and holistic manner towards discharge or transfer.
  • Assist with daily activities that support the physical and mental health and wellbeing of our patients.
  • Identify your own skills and how they may complement the existing team on the 136 suite.
  • Demonstrate resilience and be a good team player in a highly demanding environment with potentially complex emotional and physical situations.
  • Contribute to safe management of static and dynamic risk and have a good understanding of risk in a mental health setting.
  • Adhere to flexible working patterns to meet the demands and needs of the service.
  • Possess or develop knowledge of mental health and the ability to build positive, therapeutic relationships with patients.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience of working in Mental Health with a good understanding of risk.
  • Ability to work in a flexible manner to meet the demands and needs of the service.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to develop positive relationships with patients and colleagues.
  • A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use (reasonable adjustments available under the Equality Act 2010).
  • Resilience and ability to work under pressure; strong teamwork and willingness to support others.
  • Willingness to learn and develop under supervision of qualified nurses.
Service Context

The 136 suite provides a safe environment to complete nursing and medical assessment and, if required, begin a comprehensive treatment plan to support individuals during the most acute phase of a mental health crisis. The service is open and available for all age groups and needs once detained on a S136 or S135 by the local police force, including CAMHS, AMH, IDD and OPCU.

We have suites at Sherwood Oaks and Highbury Hospital.

Constraints and Notes

Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled Worker visa. Successful applicants with no NHS experience may be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. The salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker/Health & Care visa, and the Trust would not sponsor in these circumstances.
