Position: Junior Underwriter (Guernsey preferred)

About the role:

Junior Underwriter

As a Junior Underwriter at Islands Insurance Group, you’ll support the underwriting team across both commercial and personal lines. This entry-level position is ideal for someone eager to learn the fundamentals of insurance underwriting, risk assessment, and client service. You’ll play a key role in maintaining operational accuracy while contributing to a high-quality underwriting service.

What you’ll be doing :
  • Supporting colleagues in delivering high-quality underwriting service and meeting business objectives
  • Learning and applying underwriting principles across a diverse range of clients and policies
  • Assisting in risk assessment, application processing, and organising surveyor visits
  • Managing your time to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks
  • Building a strong understanding of customer needs and delivering excellent service
  • Developing your knowledge through on-the-job learning and structured development plans
What you’ll need:
  • Mathematics and English language GCSE grades A to C (or equivalent) as a minimum examination qualification
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and a professional, approachable and friendly manner
  • Problem solving skills – making decisions based on available information
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively
  • IT and digital literacy
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn
  • Professionalism and integrity
  • Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
