Cleaning Supervisor

Job Purpose:

To provide a cleaning service within a building or building complex to agreed standards.

Responsibilities

Plan, organise and control the work of cleaning staff to ensure that EA standards are met; the cleaning supervisor must personally undertake cleaning duties.

Carry out induction and skills training, including refresher training in line with EA practice.

Liaise with the building manager or other authorised person on day‑to‑day issues related to cleaning.

Investigate complaints regarding the cleaning provision, take corrective action and advise the designated line manager where appropriate.

Ensure that adequate supplies of materials and light equipment are requisitioned, maintained, and stored within budget and in good condition.

Monitor suitability and performance of materials and light equipment and advise the line manager when items are inappropriate.

Recommend and implement changes in work procedures in consultation with the line manager to improve economy, standards or ease of operation.

Ensure that the cleaning standards within the premises meet EA standards.

Allocate and collect keys from cleaning staff ensuring they are returned at the end of each day.

Plan periodic work in consultation with service users and report plans to the Area Co‑ordinator before school closures.

Ensure that all records of staff attendance, holidays, and absences are completed, authorised and returned to EA in a timely manner.

Maintain records of consumable stocks and inventory of equipment.

All duties will be carried out in the normal working conditions inherent to the role, covering colleagues on sick leave in line with EA procedures and reporting any absence in accordance with EA forms. Protective clothing, work wear and safe footwear must be worn.

Training

Employees will accept any training for jobs graded higher than their own. Training includes induction and refresher training. Payment will be made only where required by the authority for higher‑level duties.

Essential Criteria

Demonstrable two years’ experience of cleaning outside the home environment.
Ability to use own initiative and work under pressure to meet specific deadlines.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to understand and follow instructions in English.
Effective organisation and planning skills.
Ability to work as a team member.
Flexible approach to work and ability to give instruction.
Knowledge of the requirements of a Cleaning Supervisor.
Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work NI Order 1978.
Knowledge of cleaning methods and machinery.
Evidence that experience and approach to work reflect EA’s ethos and values.
Demonstrable experience of supervising staff.

Desirable Criteria

Additional experience of supervising staff.
Commitment to equality and excellence in service delivery.
