General Manager / Operations Manager
OverviewWe seek a high calibre individual for a key client with a comprehensive understanding of all print manufacturing processes, particularly in the Large Format Print and Point of Sale print sector. The role requires excellent organisational and people management skills, focus on operational and manufacturing needs, strong motivation & communication, a process‑driven mindset, and alignment to overall business operations. The holder will ensure revenue and profitability targets set in the budget are met and work delivered on time.
Responsibilities- Manage all aspects of production and associated staff.
- Ensure production processes are effective, align with commercials, and follow formal quality procedures.
- Run daily production meetings and contribute to overall strategy and business development.
- Support maintenance and development of ISO
9001 Quality Management System. - Ensure production operates to agreed procedures and quality standards.
- Handle all technical problems for projects and products.
- Implement continuous improvement procedures and methodologies to improve product and commercial return.
- Oversee production scheduling, provide resilience and challenge processes for continual improvement.
- Work with Group Managing Director Operations to seek further improvements and align with Group strategy.
- Manage staff, recruit, train, evaluate, motivate, delegate and monitor the team, ensuring training on new hardware and software.
- Balance resources against risk to manage service levels and overheads.
- Understand financial implications, capture all production costs, and manage cost efficiency.
- Champion the company’s services, set the professional tone, and provide strategic leadership for continuous improvement.
- Review and adjust staff and equipment to support company growth.
- Meet performance review objectives, deliver operations projects on time, within budget and to specification.
- Create and deliver manufacturing plans and facilities plans to meet business requirements.
- Support maintenance and development of ISO
9001 & 14001. - Maintain scheduled work, communicate delays and interface with all other departments, account management, sales and senior team.
- Contribute to the rolling 1‑3 year strategic plan for operations and ensure world‑class reliability.
- Experience manufacturing printed goods and large format print sector.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with containment & counter‑measure experience.
- Supply chain management experience (lead time reduction, packaging).
- Manufacturing excellence knowledge:
Six Sigma, standard operations, plant layout, waste elimination, and continuous improvement. - Lean manufacturing experience.
- Excellent communication, influencing, negotiating and assertiveness.
- Decision making and sound business judgement.
- Quality management and delivery of customer requirements.
- Project management, report writing and presentation skills.
- Professional, positive, self‑motivated approach.
- Approachable, good sense of humour, proactive, initiative, and results‑oriented.
- Strong relationship building and communication at all levels.
- Team player, able to work independently and on own initiative.
