Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner (Band 6+)

Join a Dynamic Primary Care Team

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (Band 6 or above) with an Independent Prescribing qualification to join our expanding urgent primary care service.

This is an exciting opportunity to work autonomously within a supportive multidisciplinary team, providing same-day assessment, diagnosis and treatment for patients presenting with urgent and undifferentiated conditions. You'll play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while helping reduce unnecessary hospital admissions.

The Role

As an Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner, you will:

  • Independently assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with minor illness, minor injuries and urgent care needs.
  • Provide same-day face-to-face and telephone consultations.
  • Triage patients and determine the most appropriate treatment or referral pathway.
  • Independently prescribe medications within your scope of practice.
  • Request and interpret appropriate diagnostic investigations.
  • Deliver evidence-based care in line with national guidance and clinical best practice.
  • Refer patients to secondary care or other healthcare services where appropriate.
  • Promote health education, disease prevention and self-management.
  • Maintain accurate electronic patient records and clinical documentation.
  • Respond appropriately to medical emergencies within your competence.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities.
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, paramedics and allied healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.

About You

We're looking for an experienced clinician who is confident working autonomously and passionate about delivering outstanding urgent care.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Band 6 or above experience in Primary Care, Urgent Care, A&E, Walk-in Centre, Minor Injury Unit or similar setting.
  • Independent Prescriber qualification (V300).
  • Minor Illness and Minor Injuries qualification.
  • Current Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Proven ability to assess, diagnose and manage patients independently.
  • Excellent clinical decision-making and risk assessment skills.
  • Experience using electronic patient record systems.
  • Strong understanding of NICE guidance, clinical governance and evidence-based practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

If you're a Band 6 or above Registered Nurse with Independent Prescribing experience looking to develop your career in urgent primary care, we'd love to hear from you.
