Journeyman Plumber Job Summary
As a Journeyman Plumber, you will be installing pipes and fixtures to ensure adequate drainage and that structures are in excellent working condition upon completion of each project. You will locate leaks and patch them, repair blockages and corrosions affecting the client’s system, and repair and install new fixtures, pipe fittings, and pipes, among other activities.
Responsibilities- Repair and maintain plumbing and drainage systems using specialized knowledge and training
- Install new pipes and fixtures
- Interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics
- Locate underground piping and document piping locations on blueprints
- Demonstrate general mechanical ability with the use of electrical test equipment, hand and power tools, and materials applicable to the plumbing trade
- Develop knowledge of and respect for diverse cultures and backgrounds
- Complete projects with quality workmanship, including installing, altering, or rebuilding high-pressure steam, water, and gas lines, valves, traps, drains, basins, faucets, electronic flush valves, lavatories, sinks, hydrants, and other plumbing fixtures and equipment
- Cut and join pipes (threaded and fusion welded), and use tools such as sewer augers, vacuum plungers, acetylene torches, soldering and welding tools, pipe threaders, cutters, gas leak detectors, sewer cameras, and pipe locators
- Provide access routes for pipes through walls, floors, and other structures as required for repairs or new installations
- Completion of a plumbing apprenticeship or formal plumbing training
- Ability to use a wide variety of plumbing tools and techniques
- All state and federal-mandated licenses required to practice
- Completion of a plumbing vocational/technical school or a recognized apprenticeship program is preferred
- Documented journeyman status is required
- Working knowledge of building and plumbing codes
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 75 lbs
- Prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching daily
- Full range of physical motion to operate manual and electrically-powered tools and plumbing equipment
