The Welfare Rights / Appeals Adviser will provide high-quality welfare benefits advice, representation, and advocacy to individuals seeking to access their benefit entitlements. The post holder will support clients through the welfare benefits system, including challenging decisions and representing clients at appeal hearings, with the aim of improving financial stability and well-being.
Responsibilities- Provide accurate, up-to-date advice and guidance on welfare benefits, including Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA), and Universal Credit
- Assist clients to make new benefit claims and ensure applications are completed accurately and effectively
- Support clients through face-to-face appointments, telephone consultations, and email correspondence
- Maintain detailed, confidential, and accurate case records in line with organisational and data protection requirements
- Communicate complex information clearly and sensitively to clients from diverse backgrounds
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies to ensure holistic client support
- Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards at all times
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as required by management
- Challenge benefit decisions through mandatory reconsiderations and appeals
- Level 4 Welfare Rights Accreditation or willingness to work towards Level 4 Welfare Rights Accreditation, including specialist appeals work
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage a varied caseload and work to deadlines
- Commitment to equality, confidentiality, and client-centred practice
- Experience of welfare benefits appeals and tribunal representation
- Experience working in an advice, advocacy, or support role
- Knowledge of the Northern Ireland welfare system
