Job DescriptionWellmark is looking for a highly experienced health care professional with at least 10+ years in the industry, including 5+ years working directly with employer benefit consultants. The ideal candidate will bring strong sales acumen, industry knowledge, and technical prowess to translate health care and benefits knowledge into actionable influence. They will leverage their industry network to position Wellmark as the top‑tier administrator while building and maintaining relationships.
The role requires a license in Iowa and South Dakota and the ability to travel up to 60% of the time, often beyond the two states.
Dedicated focus on broad consultant relations is critical. This role serves as the central hub for consultant engagement, working closely with Sales Directors, Sales Team Leaders, and SMEs to align strategy and drive impact.
Qualifications Required- Bachelor's Degree or direct and applicable work experience.
- 10+ years of related professional experience, including five years with employer benefit consultants.
- Current or imminent health and life insurance license for Iowa and South Dakota within 60 days of starting.
- Strong knowledge of insurance products, funding arrangements, regulation, cost drivers, and market dynamics.
- Experience developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance sales performance.
- Proven sales experience with a track record of success; experience in strategic selling within health insurance or a related field.
- Leadership experience with strong demonstrable competencies.
- Strong customer expectation awareness and a sense of urgency to influence outcomes.
- Skills in building and maintaining professional relationships.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong presentation abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Ability to establish matrixed partnerships and follow through on expectations.
- Strong problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Valid driver’s license; overnight travel as required.
- Extensive experience with self‑funded health insurance.
- Existing national, regional, and local health insurance consultant relationships.
- Continued education in the healthcare field.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy benefits.
- Develop and maintain a broad network of contacts across local, regional, and national consulting houses.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align Wellmark’s product delivery with client goals.
- Serve as the company contact to answer questions and resolve high‑impact issues between Wellmark and consultants.
- Create processes to distribute insights and information to consultants, supporting awareness of Wellmark capabilities.
- Engage in BCBS Association and consortium work groups to stay connected to strategic initiatives.
- Act as an internal conduit to maximize value for the consortium and influence national consultant communication.
- Proactively manage consultant relationships to help clients understand Wellmark’s value proposition.
- Coordinate and attend broker, consultant, and industry events; lead creation and maintenance of educational materials.
- Work with Sales, Product, and Operations teams to develop products and services that enhance the consultant experience.
- Seek new opportunities to expand broker and consultant relationships, generating referrals and leads for new business.
- Other duties as assigned.
