Senior Fire Protection Engineer

Overview

Senior Fire Protection Engineer G is a large design consulting firm with a local office approach and employee-owned culture.

• Lead design efforts for the analysis of fire alarm, fire suppression, and smoke control systems; create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
• Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports.
• Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information; build and maintain client relationships.
• Provide in-process design reviews of fire alarm, fire suppression, and smoke control system designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence; implement IMEG quality control processes.
• Provide technical training and mentoring; assist in resolving field issues with limited senior staff support.
• Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices; contribute to research and innovation within IMEG.
• Prioritize safety in all engineering work; identify and mitigate safety risks in fire protection systems.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions and meet project goals.
• Participate in project interviews and project presentations.

• Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts for producing technical plans and specifications.
• Advanced proficiency in thermodynamics, fire dynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics as they relate to fire protection system design in fire alarm, fire suppression, and smoke control systems for buildings.
• Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills.
• Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software including fire dynamics simulation, hydraulic simulation, and intelligibility software.
• Ability to perform final quality control checks in their area of expertise.
• Ability to develop client relationships and sell work.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to communicate clearly in both oral and written formats.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills; adaptability to new challenges.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays.

• Bachelor of Science (BS) in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent (required).
• Professional Engineer (PE) License in Fire Protection Engineering (required).
• 7 years of experience minimum; 8+ preferred in the building design consulting industry.

• Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
• Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull.
• Limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.
