About the Opportunity

In this role, you will have the opportunity to function as a technical specialist in conventional and advanced wastewater treatment, applying physical/chemical primary treatment, conventional activated sludge, biological nutrient removal, fixed‑film processes, membrane bio‑reactors (M ), sidestream treatment, tertiary filtration, auxiliary wet‑weather treatment, and disinfection.

Under supervision, develop and apply wastewater treatment and engineering techniques to complex engineering problems for treatment of various wastewater with varying quality. Primarily focus on growing our rapidly expanding Midwest business, supporting the team that directs process design for wastewater treatment projects worldwide for a global engineering firm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables including process models, process/mass balance calculations, design criteria, design memoranda, process flow diagrams, P&, tradeoff studies, and master planning studies.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously with complex technical challenges.
  • Serve as a technical specialist providing guidance on conventional and emerging wastewater treatment technologies.
  • Perform applied research involving bench, pilot, and full‑scale testing and incorporate data into process models.
  • Collaborate with process team to develop recommendations for treatment processes, equipment, and/or material selection.
  • Collect, analyze, and manage data for process modeling and design work.
  • Prepare process models and conduct complex engineering calculations per standard methods.
  • Develop life cycle assessment, including conceptual‑level life cycle costs, and environmental and social benefits.
  • Coordinate with internal and external team members for successful project execution.
Client Focus
  • Assist in identifying key client interests and drivers for ongoing projects and new business prospects.
  • Develop creative solutions to accommodate client goals.
  • Support business development activities including proposal development and client interviews.
  • Present at conferences and industry events.
Engineering Standards & Quality
  • Provide guidance on design guides, standards, and engineering codes related to water quality and treatment.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating engineering standards.
  • Apply quality program compliance and support continuous improvement efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctoral) in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering.
  • 5+ years of wastewater treatment process design experience.
  • Proficiency with process simulators such as Bio Win, GPS‑X, Sumo, and/or Simba.
  • Strong written and oral communication, and effective organization and planning skills.
  • Eager to learn and contribute to team success.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years related work experience.
  • Legal eligibility to work; ability to complete background checks.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Hybrid or flexible work options offered after 90 days.

  • Skills:
