Position Title:
Income Tax Manager
Location:Des Moines, IA, United States
Description:This position supports the Tax Research Counsel by conducting federal, state, and local tax research; performing diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings; monitoring legislation; reviewing SEC Form 10-K and 10-Q statements; and preparing and reviewing federal and state income tax returns. The manager identifies planning ideas for federal, state, and local tax and serves as a resource for employee fringe benefit and Form 1099 issues.
Responsibilities:- Key resource for Corporate Tax, providing technical support on federal and state income tax positions (25%).
- Perform diligence, research, and analysis for tax matters related to mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring (20%).
- Monitor federal, state, and local tax legislation and communicate changes within the organization (10%).
- Review BHE Form 10-Ks and 10-Qs from a tax perspective and draft income tax accounting policies (10%).
- Prepare and/or review federal and state income tax returns (10%).
- Prepare critical items for consolidated state income tax returns (10%).
- Identify tax planning projects and process improvement opportunities, construct analysis for planning projects (5%).
- Serve as a resource for taxation of employee fringe benefits, Form 1099 issues, and miscellaneous tax matters (5%).
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned (5%).
- Bachelor's degree in accounting with a graduate degree in accounting/tax, a CPA designation, or a law degree (Master's in Tax, LL.M., or J.D. preferred).
- Ten or more years of related work experience, at least eight of which in corporate income tax.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local tax laws; accounting for income taxes; taxation of mergers and acquisitions; and financial statement knowledge.
- Excellent tax research skills with ability to communicate results effectively through discussion or technical memorandum.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, execute with accuracy, and recognize when issues require escalation.
- Exceptional project management skills, including handling multiple tasks and projects concurrently and strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
- Extensive computer skills with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
