Job Description
Prepares patient drug orders as follows (with proper checks performed by a pharmacist as required by law): enters patient prescription orders into the computer; selects correct medication, strength and dosage form; prepares labels; selects and affixes auxiliary labels to medications as appropriate and legally required; counts, measures, weighs & pours medications; documents doses dispensed; files medication orders.
- Cleans counters, medication drawers, carts, shelves, and equipment as needed.
- Assists the pharmacists with audits (e.g. allergy, weight, etc.).
- Enters and fills stock bags and stock requisitions for other departments.
- Accurately processes and restocks medications for departments utilizing automated dispensing systems, i.e. Pyxis/Acudose.
- Communicates stock utilization and ordering needs.
- Assists with reordering.
- Checks expiration dates with alerts to pharmacists when needed.
- Performs rotating and restocking.
- Compounds and labels extemporaneous liquid and solid products for patients according to procedure.
- Answers telephone and processes requests according to procedures.
- Participates in the training of new technicians.

Qualifications- High school diploma or GED.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Program required.
- Registered as pharmacy technician with the State Board of Pharmacy Examiners at date of hire.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within 3 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. The acceptable credentialing body for this requirement is the American Heart Association.
- High School Diploma or GED when nationally certified through NHA.
- PCTB nationally certified technicians do NOT require HS diploma or GED.
