SummaryGS-12 Audiologist – The Audiologist conducts a full range of audiological evaluations to determine the type and degree of hearing loss, determines patients' need for amplification, measures the effectiveness of amplification, and determines need for aural rehabilitation and counseling of Veterans with hearing loss and their families.
Qualifications- United States citizenship required (non‑citizens only if no qualified citizens are available).
- Doctor of Audiology (AUD) from a program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) or the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the ASHA; or an equivalent doctoral degree in a related field from a U.S. accredited institution.
- Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Proficient in spoken and written English as required by federal regulations.
- Minimum of one year of professional experience comparable to the next lower grade (GS-11).
- Knowledge of principles and techniques in assessment and treatment of auditory and balance disorders.
- Skill in determining nature, type, and severity of hearing/communication/vestibular disorders.
- Skill in counseling patients and family members regarding management of hearing/communication/vestibular disorders.
- Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional audiology to other health care professionals.
- Ability to independently apply contemporary audiology treatments to the full range of patient populations.

- Physical Requirements:
Participation in a pre‑employment examination or evaluation as part of the hiring process.
- Advocate whole‑health approach in the VA Midwest Health Care Network.
- Assess the nature, type, and severity of hearing/communication/vestibular disorders.
- Administer full range of tests: auditory evoked potentials, videonystagmography, tinnitus, balance assessment.
- Evaluate type and degree of hearing loss and provide expert opinion on etiologies.
- Recommend and implement remedial measures: hearing aids, assistive listening devices, hearing protection.
- Plan, conduct, and coordinate auditory rehabilitation programs for patients.
- Design patient‑centered treatment plans to maximize physical and social functioning.
- Monitor and conduct comprehensive hearing conservation program for employees at risk for noise exposure.
- Consult with other facility personnel on difficult and complex cases.
- Serve as subject matter expert on hearing, tinnitus, and balance disorders.
- Apply contemporary audiology treatments: hearing conservation, electrophysiological assessment, central auditory function, tinnitus counseling, advanced amplification technology.
- Apply knowledge of embryology, genetics, pharmacology, basic physiology/disease processes, and effects of high‑intensity noise on the auditory mechanism.
- Work Schedule:
Full‑time, Monday‑Friday 7:00 am‑3:30 pm (non‑telework, no virtual position).
