Join Nationwide as a Specialist, Underwriting Middle Market – Commercial Lines (Human Services & Non‑Profit). This role handles commercial underwriting for Human Services & Non‑Profit lines, providing technical direction and account expertise to underwriting staff.

• Gather information from multiple sources to perform underwriting analysis; research issues and participate in committees or special projects.
• Underwrite new business, renewals and endorsements within granted authority, reviewing acceptability and applying company guidelines.
• Manage larger, complex work, including referral underwriting and portfolio analysis, ensuring file handling quality and workflow efficiency.
• Plan assignment completion to meet timelines and service level agreements, providing operational feedback.
• Proactively identify business development opportunities and resolve issues by consulting with agents and internal partners.
• Communicate with agents and partners, providing requested information and resolving escalated underwriting issues.
• Educate partners on underwriting process and train less experienced staff, leading training development as a subject matter expert.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
• Typically six years of commercial lines underwriting experience; middle market experience preferred.
• Commercial underwriting policy, practices and procedures knowledge; rating plans and plan concepts understanding.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to evaluate and recommend solutions to work‑related problems.
• Ability to analyze insurance risks, operate PC and related software, and advise agents and agency staff on commercial contracts.
• Preferred designations: completion of INS, AU or similar designations with progress toward CIC and/or CPCU.
