Iowa International Center is looking for interpretation professionals to help us connect Limited English Speakers (LES) with programs, services, and professionals in Central Iowa.

We are looking for an ARABIC in-person interpreter.

Our mission is to enrich lives and create pathways to prosperity. Our contract interpreters play an important role in IIC's initiatives to remove language barriers. This position works closely with the Global Languages Manager.

Requirements / Qualifications:

• Must have native, or near-native, fluency in REQUESTED LANGUAGE and English; ability to explain cultural concepts to avoid miscommunication, and to act as a cultural broker.
• Ability to concentrate, stay detached from the conversation, and remain neutral and objective at all times, while following the client's instructions closely.
• Understanding of interpreting best practices and code of ethics, the principles of consecutive interpretation, and the importance of cultural competency and inclusion during interpretation.
• Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy.
• Knowledge of industry-specific terminology; ongoing study of glossaries and training materials including scripts provided by our clients.

Job Details:

• Type:
  Independent contract; consecutive interpretation.
• Schedule:
  
  Occasional, as requested by IIC clients; typically Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends.
• Work Location:
  
  On-site at various locations in Central Iowa; sites may include schools, health centers, businesses, manufacturing, conferences; occasional video or phone interpretation.
• Reports To:
  
  Senior interpretation Program Coordinator.
• Pay: $35 per hour minimum, commensurate with skill and experience.
• Education:
  
  High school diploma or equivalent experience.
