Job Overview
As a Manager in Group Life and Disability Claims, you will lead a team of Disability Claim Analysts to acquire, service, grow and retain profitable business through effective talent management, operational planning, improvement in execution, workflow, metrics, business literacy and financial accountabilities. You will consult on the most sophisticated claims, offering guidance on claim activity, strategy and approach, and coordinate with other departments including underwriting, administration and legal.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in developing the strategic plan for the team and implement the operational plan ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Assign claims, monitor caseloads for approximately 10–15 employees (both exempt and non‑exempt) and resolve escalated claims promptly.
- Facilitate continuous operational improvement, including action planning, execution, and maintaining accurate metrics.
- Lead and direct staff: hiring, training, talent management, compensation administration, rewards & recognition, performance management, coaching and mentoring.
- Collaborate with other managers to align to strategic goals.
- Monitor and communicate business developments, ensuring operations reflect changes needed to serve customers and remain competitive.
- Act as a change agency to move the business forward.
- Serve as supplier manager for products of the team or division (if applicable).
- Participate on committees and task groups focused on improving business practices, lowering expenses, increasing customer acquisition/retention, and pricing products/services.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 6+ years of related experience.
- 3+ years of informal or formal leadership experience.
- Strong product knowledge, business knowledge, excellent human relations and decision‑making skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication, planning, organizational, problem‑solving, analytical, presentation and listening skills.
- A high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
Salary range: $81,900 – $147,600 per year (exempt). Non‑exempt positions may have a different hourly rate. Overtime and bonus opportunities may apply based on performance.

Hybrid or remote (eligible for employees residing >30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Raleigh, NC). Work arrangements will be determined in collaboration with leadership.
