American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring neuro, ortho, and trauma experience along with active IA or compact RN licensure.
Details- Surg/Neuro/Ortho unit with 25 beds
- Patient population includes heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic cases
- RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6
- Night shift, 4x12s, 48 hrs/week (36 hrs/week available upon request)
- Weekend rotation every other or every third weekend depending on staffing/census
- No on-call requirements
- Required to float across IMMC, Iowa Lutheran, and Iowa Methodist West campuses
- Uses telemetry, left equipment, chest tubes, and airvo
- Drip management for Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium (no titration)
- Uses Epic EMR
- Active IA or compact/multistate RN license required
- Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
- Current ACLS certification (AHA or ARC)
- NIHSS certification preferred, can be obtained during onboarding
- Minimum 24 months of Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience in a hospital setting
- Neurology/neurosurgery care experience required
- Orthopedic care experience required
- Trauma care experience highly preferred, Level I trauma experience highly preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- EKG/strip reading and measuring, telemetry experience required
- Experience with Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium drips required
- De-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA) preferred
- Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 12 months
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Professional reference from a supervisor, charge nurse, manager, director, CNO, or COO within the last 24 months preferred
- Provide nursing care to neuro, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic trauma patients
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Required to work 1-2 of 3 winter holidays unless the unit is closed
- Limited time-off requests around the Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Year holiday periods
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Past UnityPoint Health employees (FTE or PRN float pool) are ineligible to work travel assignments at any UPH market facility within 12 months of separation
