Apprentice Heavy Equipment Operator

We partner with a wide variety of clients to provide the groundwork and underground utilities (water, sanitary, and stormwater) for residential and industrial construction projects.

Our Apprentices operate construction equipment such as heavy-duty tractors, rollers, bulldozers, and trench excavators used in mass grading and excavation. Apprentices are needed on all types of projects, such as highways and bridges, residential, and industrial construction. Apprentices typically operate equipment for up to ten (10) hours per day and 5-6 days per week. Employees are expected to follow all safety procedures and perform light maintenance such as cleaning/greasing equipment, checking fluids, and fueling equipment.

Some manual labor required such as shoveling.

This is an in-training position. Apprentices will complete a 6000 hour apprenticeship to become a Journeyman operator.

This posting is intended for apprentice level applications.

• Ability to sit for long periods of time, typically up to 10 hours per day.
• Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, kneel, crawl and squat as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push up to 75 lbs independently.
• Availability to work 10-12 hours per day. A typical week is approximately 50-60 hours. Some weekends required based on production deadlines and weather delays.
• Ability to work outside 100% of the time, including in hot, cold and wet conditions. Employees are expected to dress appropriately.

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Reliable transportation to report directly to the job site each morning.
• Must be available to travel as projects are awarded, typically up to 3 weeks at a time.
• Experience in construction or education in industrial technology or a trade school a plus.
• Experience using basic hand tools (hammer, sledgehammer, shovel) or specialty tools (quickie-saw, pipe cutter, etc.) preferred.

Our apprentices earn $19.27 per hour. McAninch pays 100% of all benefits, including health insurance premiums and pension dues, as provided by Local 234 Operators Union. Overtime is paid after 40 hours per week and employees are paidweeklyon every Friday.

McAninch Corporation is a seasonal construction contractor. Our active season typically lasts from mid-April through mid-December. Applicants should be aware that year-round work is not guaranteed.
