AboutThe Role
The Ready Force Team Technician plays a key role in gas, water, and electric meter installation/exchange, maintenance and reading, surveying gas lines, and customer communication. This role may also participate in atmospheric corrosion, leak surveying, or line locating. The position requires a significant amount of walking in outdoor environmental conditions, excellent time management, and flexibility. Traveling throughout the United States up to 100% of the time while supporting various projects is required.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Meter Maintenance: Perform visual inspections of water or electric meters for leaks or damage, identify hazards, properly change out meters of varying sizes/brands, and handle meter register changes for AMI/AMR upgrades.
- Meter Reading: Read electric, gas, or water meters and enter data collected in the field into a handheld computer.
- Surveying Meters and Gas Lines: Detect location of underground utilities and mark accordingly; inspect gas meters and associated piping; perform visual inspections of gas lines and fittings; grade gas leaks by severity and report escalations; identify hazards; clean and re‑coat/paint meters and piping.
- Customer & Team Communication: Refer consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities; provide general meter service information to customers; use telephones, tablets, or computers to communicate; participate in company‑provided safety meetings.
- Proficient in at least one to two core services such as meter reading (gas, water, or electric), small meter installation/exchange, or basic gas line surveying.
- Performs under close supervision.
- Education: None. Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Experience: Must possess a valid driver’s license. Upon hire, the candidate may need to complete and pass all Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) training. Minimum of 1 year of experience in any of the following fields: electric, gas, or water meter maintenance/installation/reading, or gas line detection/surveying.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience: 1+ years in gas and/or electric services, 2+ years experience in direct exchange of water meters and registers of varying sizes.
- Valid driver’s license and successful completion of OQ training.
- Ability to multi‑task, and work independently and as part of a team.
- Exceptional flexibility in daily routines, route scheduling, and work hours.
- Adequate time‑management skills to finish daily tasks in a timely manner.
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting with management and customers.
- Ability to handle unhappy or negative customers professionally.
- Excellent attention to detail for problem‑solving.
- Ability to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Basic knowledge of GIS systems and principles.

- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time.
- Repeat motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Work that includes moving objects up to 50 lbs.
- Communication with others to exchange information; must see, read, write, and speak.

- 100% travel time across the United States.
