Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – Fleet Services by Cox Automotive

Duties- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”) and DOT inspections on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Carry out minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose and repair various truck systems such as air conditioning, electrical, brake, cooling, engine, and steering by using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other diagnostics tools.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to identify malfunctions.
- Road test vehicles to confirm repairs and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, select appropriate solutions, and evaluate alternatives with sound judgment.
- Manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation on company‑issued service trucks.
- Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs and resolve issues.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage daily schedule independently.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks as required.
- Document all work, parts used, and findings in Repair Orders (“RO”) using company iOS devices and proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- High‑school diploma or GED and three years’ experience in a related field (alternative combinations of education and experience are acceptable).
- Own the hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or have a valid medical card with more than four months remaining).
- Be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver’s license, maintaining a Driver Qualification File.
- ASE T3 (Drivetrain) certification
- ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
- ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
- ASE T6 (Electrical & Electronic Systems) certification
- ASE T7 (HVAC) certification
- ASE 608/609 certification
- Apply new information to problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting, climbing, and repetitive tasks.
- Communicate clearly and organize information efficiently.
- Select appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
- Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions.
