Great opportunity for a motivated coach to lead a year‑round team at an astounding aquatic facility that features an Olympic‑sized pool.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for planning, managing, and directing the swim team at the Wellmark YMCA and for ensuring the safety of participants while operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines. It will involve coaching, leading, and motivating athletes in practice groups and at meets, promoting improvement and growth. The full‑time role also includes administrative and operational tasks essential to team management, growth, and culture.

Education

/ Experience Requirements
  • Completion of high lehet school or equivalent.
  • Two years of competitive coaching experience.
  • Working knowledge of competitive teams.
  • American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches (Lifeguard certification accepted with proof of successful completion of the online Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification).
  • Registered USA Swimming Coach preferred.
  • YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving Online Course prior to starting.
  • Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or equivalent prior to starting.
  • Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained thereafter.
Essential Functions
  • Hire, supervise 트, train and direct assistant coaches.
  • In conjunction with the supervisor, prepare season training plans, themes, focus, and develop team events.
  • Plan, write, schedule, and direct all team practices and meets.
  • Maintain proper records, team lists, and reports as needed.
  • Address member concerns through appointments and/or phone conversations.
  • Relашәe to الحض-masing member on a professional basis at all times.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment.
  • Ensure safety of participants by enforcing policies and disciplinary rules.
  • Create an environment that welcomes all types of swimmers from varying levels and backgrounds.
  • Communicate with the team and staff regarding activities, meets, goals,čo, and daily training plans.
  • Develop and execute the practice plan.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
