Job Description
The Superintendent is responsible for the daily operation of a job site, including scheduling, production, and procurement of materials, manpower, and equipment. Supervises all direct labor positions on the assigned project and manages contracted work to ensure successful project completion.
Responsibilities- Study specifications to plan construction procedures based on scheduling, staffing, tools, and methods.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to determine project schedule and develop “look‑ahead” schedules.
- Coordinate pre‑construction meetings before mobilization.
- Direct procurement of tools and materials to align with work schedules.
- Inform all parties of construction issues and progress; meet regularly with supervisory personnel, craft workers, subcontractors, and clients to provide updates and gather input.
- Resolve complaints and grievances within the workforce with supervisory and labor representatives.
- Consult with engineers, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve construction problems and improve methods.
- Inspect work in progress to ensure adherence to specifications and schedules.
- Manage the project using progress reports, material usage, and cost data, and adjust schedules accordingly.
- Work with the Manager of Craft Resources to allocate personnel, manage labor costs, and terminate non‑performing personnel if necessary.
- Assist in preparing the Project Management Plan.
- Enforce company policies on safety, equal opportunity, quality, and housekeeping.
- Track and price change requests, extra work tickets, and back charges.
- Minimum 5 years of commercial construction superintendent experience.
- Knowledge of construction processes, building codes, and design requirements.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
- Ability to read blueprints accurately.
- Strong understanding of subcontractors’ scopes and tolerances.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in monitoring progress and coordinating work activities.
- Strong management skills and proactive supervision.
- High integrity and adherence to ethical standards.
- Superior problem‑solving ability.
- Team player who supports coworkers, customers, and subcontractors.
- Good interpersonal skills and tact.
- Highly organized with ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Effective planning: allocates resources and assigns personnel efficiently.

- Self‑starter demonstrating initiative and minimal supervision.
- Assigned to one or more project worksites.
- Must work in construction environments with seasonal weather exposure.
- Must climb ladders, scaffolding, and navigate tight spaces safely.
- Frequent sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, and manual handling.
- Lift up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds.
- No special vision requirements.
- Travel by land or air required.
- Normal hours Monday through Friday; occasional weekend and night shift work.
