Position Overview

The Large-Scale Data Center Commissioning Manager is responsible for planning, leading, and delivering the full commissioning lifecycle for major mission-critical facilities. This role ensures all mechanical, electrical, controls, and life-safety systems are installed, tested, validated, and fully operational in accordance with design intent, owner requirements, and industry best practices. The Commissioning Manager collaborates closely with engineering, construction, vendors, and the operations team to deliver highly reliable, high-performance infrastructure for large-capacity data environments.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement commissioning strategies, schedules, and documentation for large-scale data center projects.

Lead commissioning activities across electrical (UPS, generators, switch gear), mechanical (chillers, CRAH/CRAC, cooling towers), controls (BMS/EPMS), and life-safety systems.

Manage commissioning agents, subcontractors, third-party firms, and OEM partners.

Align commissioning milestones with construction and startup timelines.

Execution & Technical Oversight

Direct functional testing, integrated systems testing (IST), and full end-to-end validation of critical infrastructure.

Review MEP designs, submittals, startup documentation, MOPs, and testing scripts to ensure compliance with owner requirements and established standards.

Lead root-cause analysis and troubleshooting efforts on-site.

Verify system performance against key metrics—redundancy, efficiency, capacity, safety, and resiliency.

Quality, Documentation & Compliance

Ensure commissioning activities comply with ASHRAE, NFPA, IEEE, Uptime Institute, and internal design standards.

Maintain all commissioning logs, test scripts, performance data, and turnover documentation.

Manage punch-list development and closeout.

Confirm installations meet environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Stakeholder Coordination

Serve as the commissioning liaison among the owner, design team, general contractor, and trade partners.

Provide scheduled updates, reporting, and risk assessments to leadership.

Facilitate commissioning meetings, workshops, and integrated testing sessions.

Identify enhancements to commissioning processes and system designs for future projects.

Document lessons learned and support the development of commissioning standards and best practices.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.

7+ years of commissioning experience in mission-critical or large-scale data environments.

Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical infrastructure (UPS, generators, cooling systems, controls, fire/life-safety).

Hands‑on experience with functional testing, IST, equipment startup, and system troubleshooting.

Familiarity with commissioning standards (ASHRAE Guideline 0/1, CSI Division 01 Cx, OPR-based commissioning).

Proficiency with project management and scheduling software.

Strong leadership, communication, and multitasking skills in high‑pressure environments.

Preferred Qualifications

Certifications such as CxA, CCP, PMP, PE, LEED AP, or similar.

Experience with large data‑center developers or colocation environments.

Exposure to automated commissioning tools or digital monitoring platforms.

Knowledge of energy‑efficient commissioning and sustainability practices.

Working Conditions

Frequent travel to project sites (domestic and international).

Extended hours during critical commissioning phases.

Required on‑site presence during startup, IST, and turnover activities.

About the Role

This position is central to delivering safe, efficient, and resilient mission‑critical facilities supporting high‑density compute, AI systems, and large‑scale digital infrastructure. The Commissioning Manager ensures that every system—mechanical, electrical, controls, and safety—performs flawlessly to meet the demanding standards of modern large‑capacity data operations.
