Position: Mental Health Tech (Outpatient)

Position

We are looking to hire full‑time Mental Health Techs (MHT) to provide high‑quality care to patients on our Senior Adult and Adolescent units who are hospitalized with psychiatric or emotional disorders. MHTs hired must support the hospital program philosophy of care, support and ensure a therapeutic milieu for all patients, communicate with nursing staff constantly, and participate in the patient plan of care.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in treatment planning by helping identify patients’ problems, needs, and strengths; suggesting modifications to the treatment plan based on observations of patients’ behavior.
  • Provide input during shift report and discharge planning.
  • Implement patients’ treatment plans by monitoring patients’ progress and communicating information regarding patient behavior to other members of the treatment team.
  • Maintain communication with patient, family members, and referral sources in the patient’s interest.
  • Co‑facilitate didactic, educational, and community groups within the context of the adolescent treatment program, encouraging and facilitating patient participation in therapeutic activities.
  • Supervise patients to ensure their safety and their involvement in treatment and during transport.
  • Participate in maintaining the therapeutic milieu on the unit, enforcing the level system or other methods of behavior management.
  • Maintain patient, program, department, and related documentation.
  • Orient new patients to unit, program, and milieu.
  • Carry out general nursing assistance as assigned and supervised by nurse in charge.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for patients.
  • Assist patients in carrying out activities of daily living, when congruent with the patients’ treatment plan, needs, age, and developmental level.
  • Carry out clerical/administrative assignments to support patient care and department and hospital operations.
  • Perform related duties as requested.
  • Uphold the Organization’s ethics and customer service standards.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. CPR and MANDT are required (training required and employer provided).
  • Licenses: None.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years clinical experience, preferably in a behavioral healthcare setting, phone triage, tele‑health, or case management, or a combination of education and experience. Experience in a free‑standing psychiatric hospital preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Must have basic PC skills that include a combination of working in a Windows Operating System and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel and the ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute.
    • Must have excellent communication skills and be a good listener with a pleasant demeanor that encourages and engages others.
    • Must be able to multi‑task, prioritize, and have strong time‑management skills.
  • Screening: Must successfully pass background check, drug screen, physical exam, and be able to provide positive employment references.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand for sustained periods, walk, pull, lift, raise, and move objects from position to position (up to 50 lbs), finger grasp; perceive the nature of sound, and perform repetitive motions of the wrist, hands, or fingers.
