Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to patients according to hospital policy and procedure. The RN assesses patient care needs, plans and implements nursing care procedures, evaluates patient progress, and modifies care plans as necessary. The RN provides teaching to patients and their families and directs the work of nursing support staff through appropriate delegation and supervision.
Responsibilities- Provide direct care to patients, including addressing social and emotional needs, supervising medication schedules, and evaluating patient progress.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals to determine and provide the best possible care for patients.
- Maintain a safe environment and provide social support by encouraging participation in support groups, social activities, and other therapeutic measures.
- Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history.
- Plan and provide nursing care for patients; make nursing diagnoses and recommend treatment options.
- Consult with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff in designing appropriate treatment plans.
- Administer medications, note reactions, and arrange further medical attention when necessary.
- Assist patients in understanding the nature of emotional disturbances and the need for treatment.
- Keep accurate written charts and records of patient activities and progress; comply with laws, regulations, protocols, and procedures.
- Use professional judgment to apply appropriate intervention techniques with patients in crisis and maintain a safe environment for staff and patients.
- Document all patient information on medical charts and follow physician’s orders; maintain patient confidentiality.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of patient treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results according to standard medical record keeping.
- Perform administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, typing, and completing progress notes in the computer system.
- Uphold the organization’s ethics and customer service standards.
- Education: ADN or BSN from an accredited college or university. CPR required.
- Required Licenses: Valid Texas RN license in good standing.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS; CPI certifications a plus. De-escalation program provided during on-site training.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years clinical experience, preferably in a behavioral healthcare setting, phone triage, telehealth, case management, or a combination of education and experience.
- Must be 21 years old or older.
- Additional: Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of patient rights and laws pertaining to mental health; clinical skills in psychiatric care; leadership and crisis intervention abilities; effective communication and group facilitation skills; ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care; familiarity with psychopharmacy and medications; ability to maintain professional nursing standards and provide compassionate care.

Must successfully pass background check, drug screen, and physical; be able to provide positive employment references. - Physical Demands:
Ability to perform typical hospital duties, with or without accommodations, including lifting up to 50 lbs and other physical requirements.
