Position
Environmental Planner – Detroit Lakes, MN (Remote within 100 miles). Flexible location; can be performed from any Apex office or remotely.
Responsibilities- Conduct environmental field studies (wetland delineations, avian studies, wildlife surveys, tree/shrub surveys).
- Assist in authoring NEPA environmental documents and preparing federal, state, and local permits.
- Prepare evaluations for general wildlife species and listed federal/state species of concern.
- Develop reports, documents, and permits; write field aquatic resource/wetland delineation reports for USACE submissions.
- Operate Trimble GPS equipment and GPS/GIS software.
- Communicate with the public (public meetings, informational meetings, construction notifications).
- Travel to project locations, work outdoors, and occasionally travel out of town and work overtime during deadlines.
- Work independently and in a team environment.
- Participate in professional organizations and community leadership programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, natural resource management, environmental science, biological science, ecology, or related field.
- Minimum 2+ years environmental planning and permitting experience.
- Experience with wetland training, ordinary high-water determinations, biological assessments, and regional assessment methods.
- Experience with transportation projects and public agencies in North Dakota and Minnesota is preferred.
- Proficiency in GPS and GIS software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
- Proficient with Microsoft Windows/Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Operate a computer under normal ergonomic conditions.
- Occasional work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Lift and move up to 10 pounds routinely, up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Work scheduled hours onsite or in the office for projects.
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; reasonable accommodations for disabilities.

Base salary range: $65,000 - $85,000 (actual base pay depends on experience, education, licensure, location, and internal equity).
