The Assurance Senior will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day in-charge duties of planning, fieldwork and wrap-up, including preparing financial statements with disclosures, applying GAAP as necessary, and documenting, validating, testing and assessing various internal control systems. This position may act as the client contact for basic questions and information and may be involved in reviews and agreed-upon procedure engagements.
Job Duties- Control Environment: apply knowledge of the collective effect of factors on policies and procedures; document, validate and assess the design and operating effectiveness of the client’s internal control system; identify and communicate suggested improvements to client internal controls and accounting procedures; supervise and review the work of audit staff.
- GAAP: apply governing principles to client transactions; communicate disclosure requirements; draft complex financial statements with disclosures; recognize and apply new pronouncements; discuss alternative GAAP with management and engagement team; identify complex accounting issues and elevate for resolution; coach junior staff.
- SEC and PCAOB: apply SEC regulations and PCAOB guidelines; read and review client SEC filings; prepare communications to the Client and Audit Committee; plan and execute Section 404 internal control audits, including understanding the control environment, designing test plans, evaluating deficiencies, and assessing the overall financial reporting control environment.
- GAAS/Professional Standards: formulate and communicate audit plans; apply GAAS to complex issues; exercise audit skepticism; use firm audit manuals; document deviations from policy with approvals.
- Methodology: coordinate audit plan execution; apply firm standards and methodologies; identify and propose outcomes to critical issues.
- Research: conduct information gathering from authoritative sources; research complex accounting areas; document findings; assist engagement manager with information gathering for audit strategy; develop Audit Engagement Planning Memorandum and budgets; define responsibilities of audit staff; other duties as required.
- Supervision: provide feedback to Audit Associates; supervise work within the engagement team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, required; OR Bachelor’s degree in another field with CPA certification.
- Master’s degree in Accountancy, preferred.
- Two or more years of prior relevant audit experience; prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Eligible to sit for CPA exams upon starting; actively pursuing CPA exams preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with assurance applications and research tools preferred.
- Solid understanding of internal controls and professional standards (GAAP, GAAS, Sarbanes-Oxley); strong communication and multi-tasking abilities; analytical and diagnostic skills; ability to work under deadlines; solid project management skills.
- Two (2) or more years of audit experience; CPA eligibility or certification encouraged.
- CPA certification is preferred but not always required at hire depending on role.
Salary ranges vary by location; examples include:
California $85,000–$95,000;
Ohio $75,000–$82,000;
Colorado $72,000–$80,000;
Illinois $78,000–$87,000;
Maryland $78,000–$93,000;
Minnesota $70,000–$80,000;
Massachusetts $81,500–$90,000;
New Jersey $80,000–$95,000; NYC/Long Island/Westchester $80,000–$115,000;
Washington $72,000–$90,000;
Washington DC $80,000–$100,000.
