Orion Solutions Group is partnering with a Detroit-based company to identify a Technical Accounting Analyst who will provide expertise in accounting research and technical analysis under U.S. GAAP. In this role, you will contribute to the preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and support external reporting, including Form 10-Q and Form 10-K filings.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze and interpret U.S. GAAP and SEC guidance to determine proper accounting and reporting treatment for new, complex, and unusual transactions or agreements.
  • Review revenue contracts under ASC 606 and lease agreements under ASC 842.
  • Partner with the Technical Accounting and External Reporting Manager to coordinate audit requests, provide reporting inputs, and support preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors on the preparation of audited financial statements and internal controls compliance.
  • Lead the preparation of financial and operational reporting to regulatory agencies, including FERC and MPSC.
  • Research and monitor current and emerging accounting issues, developing and implementing related policies and procedures.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of accounting and reporting functions.
  • Promote a collaborative work environment by providing training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required); MBA or Master’s in Accountancy (preferred)
  • CPA certification required
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in accounting and/or auditing.
  • Strong expertise in GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Hands‑on experience preparing external SEC reports for a publicly traded company.
  • Proven ability to lead change initiatives and deliver on project goals.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite and Workiva; skilled in leveraging system tools and process improvements.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to mentor and guide teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels and with external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, presentation, and non‑verbal.
