Job Description

Mobile Tax Wizards is seeking two experienced tax professionals for the upcoming tax season.

Both candidates must have prior experience independently preparing individual income tax returns. At least one selected candidate should also have experience preparing business returns, including partnerships and S corporations.

This is not an entry-level tax-preparation position.

About the Opportunity

Mobile Tax Wizards brings professional tax preparation directly to clients throughout Southwest and West Michigan. Appointments may take place in clients' homes or at convenient public locations such as coffee shops.

More than 80% of the annual workload is generally completed during an approximately 10-week period between late January and mid-April. Outside tax season, Mobile Tax Wizards provide reasonable support to their assigned clients as needed.

Our mission is:

From Confused to Empowered

We want to leave every client feeling informed, respected, and more confident about their taxes.

Responsibilities

As a Mobile Tax Wizard, you will:

  • Prepare federal and state individual income tax returns using Drake Tax Software
  • Prepare business returns if selected for the advanced business-tax role
  • Meet clients at convenient locations within an agreed-upon service area
  • Review tax documents and identify missing or inconsistent information
  • Explain tax results clearly and answer client questions
  • Help clients understand deductions, credits, balances due, and planning opportunities
  • Obtain required signatures and payments
  • Complete and back up each return for office processing
  • Submit completed returns to the Mobile Tax Wizards office team
  • Coordinate with office staff regarding missing documents, corrections, or rejected returns
  • Maintain accurate records and protect confidential taxpayer information
  • Provide reasonable follow-up support to assigned clients throughout the year
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant federal and Michigan tax rules

Mobile Tax Wizards' office staff will electronically file completed returns.

Experience Tracks

We expect to engage up to two tax professionals.

Candidates should be comfortable independently preparing individual returns involving areas such as:

  • W-2 and retirement income
  • Dependents and tax credits
  • Itemized deductions
  • Education-related tax benefits
  • Schedule C income
  • Rental properties
  • Depreciation
  • Estimated tax payments

Advanced Individual and Business Tax Preparer

At least one selected candidate should also have experience preparing:

  • Form 1065 partnership returns
  • Form 1120-S S corporation returns
  • Schedule K-1 reporting
  • Partner or shareholder basis
  • Business depreciation and fixed assets
  • Multi-member LLC returns
  • Reasonable compensation and shareholder matters

Business-return experience is not required for both openings.

Compensation

This is a commission-based independent-contractor opportunity.

A typical new-client individual return currently generates around $70 in contractor compensation and is typically completed in 60 to 90 minutes
.

Actual earnings vary based on return complexity, travel, preparation time, follow-up work, client volume, experience, and availability.

Business-return compensation is higher and varies based on the type and complexity of the return.

Contractors can build recurring seasonal income through long-term relationships with returning clients.

Annual Schedule

More than 80% of the annual workload is concentrated into approximately 10 weeks between late January and mid-April.

Limited off-season client support may include:
