Practice Detail: A Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician will join our Department of Pediatrics, specializing in comprehensive outpatient care within a developmental-behavioral pediatrics setting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate deep expertise in neurodevelopmental and behavioral disorders, and will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—including psychology, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, and social work—to deliver integrated, family-centered care.

Henry Ford St. John Hospital is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician to join our growing Pediatric Subspecialty team. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a mission-driven children’s hospital with an expanding regional footprint in developmental and behavioral health.

Position Highlights:

  • Opportunity to make a significant impact through compassionate, evidence-based, family-centered care for children with developmental, behavioral, and learning differences.
  • Primary focus is on outpatient evaluations and longitudinal care for children and adolescents with concerns including autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, speech and language delays, intellectual disabilities, learning disorders, behavioral challenges, anxiety, and mood disorders.
  • Includes limited inpatient consultation responsibilities for developmental and behavioral concerns in hospitalized pediatric patients and emergency room settings.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary framework that includes child psychology, neuropsychology, general pediatrics, pediatric neurology, psychiatry, and school-based services.
  • Faculty appointment and academic engagement opportunities available through our affiliated medical schools and ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program.
  • Involvement in medical education, program development, and system-wide initiatives to enhance developmental-behavioral care delivery.
Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and manage patients with appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic skills in the outpatient setting.
  • Provide tailored consultation and treatment plans for developmental, behavioral, and learning concerns.
  • Coordinate care and collaborate with case management, therapy services, schools, and community resources.
  • Participate in and support quality improvement and care coordination initiatives aimed at improving access and outcomes.
  • Serve as admitting, attending, and/or consulting physician for developmental and behavioral concerns in hospitalized pediatric patients, as needed.
  • Participate in the education of pediatric residents and medical students.
  • Provide documentation that meets insurance and regulatory requirements; assist in appeals as needed.
  • Participate in limited call schedules and inpatient consultations, primarily as a specialty consultant.
  • Help build and enhance developmental-behavioral pediatrics as a core service within the Department of Pediatrics.
Education:

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) required

Required Credential(s):

  • MD or DO with unrestricted license or license eligibility in the State of Michigan
  • Board Certification or Eligibility in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics (or Neurodevelopmental Disabilities), as recognized by the American Board of Pediatrics
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Pediatric Residency
  • Controlled Substance License and DEA Registration
Preferred Credential(s):

Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), American Heart Association

Additional Preferences:

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics or Neurodevelopmental Disabilities
  • Prior experience in academic, hospital-based, or interdisciplinary care settings
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to clinical excellence, collaboration, and health equity
Additional Preferences:

  • Completion of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics fellowship program.
  • BC in specialty.
