Position Overview

Job Title:

Physician – Department of Neurology, Division of Cerebrovascular Disease and Neurocritical Care, Neurocritical Care (Open Rank/Track Faculty).

The Department of Neurology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is recruiting a Neurocritical Care Clinical & Faculty Physician to complement our established, general and specialty neurologists and support the growth of our neurocritical care program. The Neurocritical Care Physician will manage patients with acute neurological disorders, including those in the neurocritical care units, acute stroke and telestroke services, and provide consultation to a wide range of services involving the emergency department and other critical care units within our medical center.

Department/Division Overview

The Department of Neurology at OSU Wexner Medical Center consists of 15 specialized divisions, 63 physicians, 5 psychologists, 12 dedicated research faculty, 24 residents, and 14 fellows. We provide care across 7 ambulatory facilities and 3 hospitals, operate an 18-bed neurocritical care unit, a 30-bed stroke ward, and an expanding tele-neurology service partnering with 7 regional hospitals. Our telestroke network, among the largest in the nation, encompasses 32 affiliated hospitals.

With over $15.5 million in annual research funding, OSU Neurology is at the forefront of discovering new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for neurological disorders. Our research focuses on neurogenetics, neuroimmunology and neurodegenerative medicine. We conduct over 320 clinical trials and studies annually, supported by a biorepository and brain bank. We offer 10 prestigious clinical fellowships and international training opportunities through the OSU Global Neurology Initiative, with partner programs in Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.

In 2024, our Neurology Residency Program ranked in the top 15th percentile nationwide on the Doximity Residency Navigator list.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as preceptor and provide bedside training of residents, fellows, medical students, undergraduate and graduate students, nursing staff, and other allied health professionals.
  • Perform bedside intensive care unit procedures where assigned.
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care in the University Hospital and James Neurocritical Care units, primarily with additional consultation services on the stroke and telestroke units.
  • Perform other duties and/or call assignments as defined by the Chair or his/her designee.
  • Ensure continuing medical education requirements are met; participate in department, college, medical center, and university committees and other service activities.
  • Direct and participate in quality assessments and improvement activities.
  • Practice within the established Medical Center policies, procedures, and protocols, adhering to key results areas of the Medical Center.
Requirements
  • MD or DO
  • Successful completion of an accredited Neurology Residency Program
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurology
  • Completion of a Neurocritical Care Fellowship
  • Board Certified or Eligible in Neurocritical Care
  • Eligible for an Ohio Medical License
