Detroit Early Middle College Assistant Principal/EMC Coordinator

Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 / year

Description

The Detroit Early Middle College High School seeks a collaborative and innovative leader to serve as the Assistant Principal/Early Middle College (EMC) Coordinator for the Detroit Early Middle College. This role is instrumental in supporting the Principal in daily operations, instructional leadership, staff development, and ensuring compliance and coordination across postsecondary partners. The Assistant Principal/EMC Coordinator will help implement the vision and mission of the Detroit Early Middle College and coordinate all dual enrollment, college readiness, and student support functions.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, School Administration, or a related field.
  • Must hold a valid Elementary & Secondary Administration K-12 (ES) Certification with Michigan Department of Education, or be eligible to obtain one.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in school leadership, preferably at the high school level.
  • Experience in Early Middle College, dual enrollment, or similar programming (strongly preferred)
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Vision:
  • Support the principal in implementing the vision, mission, and strategic goals of Detroit Early Middle College.
  • In coordination with the principal, develop and implement articulation processes leading to 13th grade certification and/or Associate’s degree.
  • Develop a strong college-going culture and ensure that scholars are prepared for postsecondary education and careers.
  • Collaborate with postsecondary and industry partners to align programming and student pathways.
  • Assist with planning and executing school-wide initiatives and events.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with district counselors, post-secondary admissions, department chairs, and instructors.
Academic Excellence and Program Development:
  • Coordinate Early Middle College programming, including support with career pathways and student course scheduling, in collaboration with postsecondary partners.
  • Work with faculty to align curriculum to Michigan Merit Curriculum standards, postsecondary readiness skills, and industry certifications.
  • Monitor student academic progress and ensure systems for support and intervention are in place.
  • Collaborate with the principal to design and refine the Program of Studies (POS) and maintain required documentation for the Michigan Department of Education.
  • Support data-driven instructional practices and assist with school improvement planning.
Staff Development and Supervision:
  • Assist in the supervision and evaluation of instructional and support staff in accordance with the principal.
  • Provide coaching and professional development.
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of teachers and staff aligned with the Detroit Early Middle College mission.
  • Foster collaboration, professional learning communities, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Family and Community Engagement:
  • Deliver clear and timely communication with families around student progress, early middle college expectations, and graduation requirements.
  • Organize and participate in family engagement events such as orientation sessions, summer bridge academy, college readiness nights, and parent information meetings.
  • Coordinate with district and community partners to expand enrichment, mentoring, and college/career experiences for scholars.
  • Serve as liaison between students, families, and postsecondary partners.
School Operations and Compliance:
  • In coordination with the principal, ensure compliance with all Michigan Department of Education and Michigan Early Middle College Association requirements for Early Middle College programs.
  • Support with enrollment, scheduling, and data reporting processes in collaboration with post secondary partners.
  • Assist with student recruitment and the admission process.
