Educational Development Specialist – Wayne State University, Detroit campus.

Responsibilities
  • Provide consultation to faculty and instructional staff in the design and structure of instructional solutions for inclusive, engaging, and collaborative learning in all modalities, including one-on-one and group consultations related to course design, redesign, and development of clear course standards and objectives, including outcomes assessment.
  • Conceptualize, create, and deliver educational development workshop sessions (pedagogical and technical) in various modalities to help faculty develop engaging, interactive, and student-centered courses.
  • Develop and disseminate professional materials, documentation, modules, training, workshops and resources related to learning theory, pedagogy, evidence-based teaching methods, classroom assessment techniques, educational technology, and quality assurance.
  • Participate in campus-wide teaching and learning initiatives that encourage the use of emerging technology tools for innovative, student-centered learning environments.
  • Define, implement, and coordinate projects and related research with faculty; disseminate results through reports, publications, presentations, workshops, conferences, consultations, and website resources.
  • Update and improve knowledge, skills and attitudes pertaining to instructional design, faculty development, new models of instruction, emerging technologies and related fields.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to support a quality assurance process for continuous improvement of courses and programs.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned and perform other related duties as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, instructional design, business, communications or another related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Doctorate preferred.
  • Experience with at least 5 years of related work; minimum 3 years' experience consulting with faculty and facilitating workshops, learning communities, and/or faculty/professional development.
  • Extensive knowledge in adult learning theories and innovative instructional design methods.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and conducting faculty development programs.
  • Experience designing courses in Learning Management Systems (Canvas).
  • Experience with course syllabus development.
  • Successful online and/or hybrid teaching experience in higher education.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with editing and proofreading educational materials
  • Experience with quality metrics (Quality Matters, OLC, etc.)
  • Quality Matters Peer Reviewer certification
  • Technical writing and/or materials development skills

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

  • Course Design: knowledge of current course design, assessment, and teaching strategies; ability to develop and implement learning outcomes; experience with backward design and universal design for learning; advanced instructional design skills.
  • Technical: proficiency with ADA accessibility in online materials; experience with Canvas, Zoom, and related tools; MS Office;
    Microsoft Teams.
  • Interpersonal: ability to develop professional relationships and work with diverse populations; discretion with confidential information.
  • Planning/Organizational: strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects.
  • Communication: clear, persuasive written and verbal communication; ability to consult with diverse audiences; capability to author articles for peer-reviewed publication; ability to solicit and incorporate feedback.
  • Job Effectiveness: collaborative mindset, commitment to diversity, independence and teamwork, initiative, ongoing professional growth, and evidence-based teaching research skills.
