Position Title: Academic Interventionist - Multilingual

Location: Asbury Park, Multilingual Education

Reports to: Senior Director, Multilingual Education

Bargaining Unit: Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT)

In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary

The Multilingual Academic Interventionist will be based at the central office and report to the Sr. Director of Multilingual Education. The MLL AI will be assigned a caseload of schools with populations of Multilingual Learners to support teachers to adapt core content curriculum to give access to Multilingual Learners. Also, the MLL AI will support instruction with targeted small group academic and language interventions.

This role involves traveling to different schools to implement support strategies, collaborate with school staff, and utilize data-driven approaches to enhance student outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Applicant must show evidence of coursework in Mathematics, English/ELA, Reading, Science or Bilingual.
  • Minimum three (3) year of actual work experience working directly with students.
  • Understanding of and commitment to implementing academic intervention activities for students in grades 1-12.
Essential Functions
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate successfully with other staff members, families and caregivers, and community members
  • Develop and contribute to an environment and climate that is safe, welcoming, and supportive for all members of the campus community
  • Work with families, students, and staff to build and implement individualized academic intervention plans.
  • Assist the teacher with planning and facilitating instructional tasks assigned to individual or small groups of students.
  • Assist with the differentiation of instruction and academic support based on individual students’ strengths and needs.
  • Work directly with the teacher to assist students in reinforcing Mathematics, English/ELA or Reading, Computer and/or Bilingual skills, and to develop and implement interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Use computer applications/information technology to assist students in improving their English Proficiency
  • Assist teacher to monitor the successful implementation of the school’s curriculum and English Development Curriculum
  • Collaborate with the teacher to provide consistent, intensive, and targeted instruction to students.
  • Travel to various schools within the district to provide individualized and small-group instruction to multilingual students, focusing on improving academic skills and English language proficiency.
  • Develop and implement intervention plans tailored to the WIDA levels and specific needs of students at each assigned school.
  • Collaborate with school-based teachers and staff to integrate effective instructional strategies and differentiate instruction for multilingual learners. ELD
  • Utilize SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) methods to support language development and content comprehension in diverse classroom settings.
  • Monitor and assess student progress across multiple schools, adjusting interventions as needed to ensure continued improvement.
  • Communicate with school administrators, teachers, and parents to provide updates on student progress and strategies for supporting learning at home.
  • Participate in central office and district-wide professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices and emerging trends in multilingual education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
