Henry Ford Health and Michigan State University (MSU) have joined forces as Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences (Henry Ford + MSU) to transform health. This partnership brings together a leading research university with $932 million in research expenditures and a $12 billion academic health system with 13 acute‑care hospitals. The joint venture aims to pioneer breakthroughs to improve community health, featuring a new 7‑story, 335,000 sq. ft.
research building on the Detroit campus and recruitment of nearly 60 world‑class investigators. Generous start‑up packages and cutting‑edge resources will support selected candidates.
Position Summary
Henry Ford + MSU is launching a major strategic growth plan to add up to 60 new open‑rank faculty positions over six years across various departments. We seek exceptional researchers with a record of innovative in‑silico, patient‑oriented, or population science work and a history of research funding commensurate with rank. Successful candidates will join the Detroit campus and collaborate closely with clinicians and scientists throughout Henry Ford and MSU.
Outstanding candidates in all specialties will be considered, especially those focused on neurosciences, cardiometabolic health, women’s health, musculoskeletal health, or precision health/data science.
Ideal candidates are highly productive, research‑intensive, and mission‑driven, with a strong desire for their science to have timely clinical and/or community impact. Applicants must hold a PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent. Associate, associate professor, and full professor/Scientist level candidates should have sustained extramural funding and high‑impact peer‑reviewed publications. Assistant Professor/Scientist level candidates should have a training and research track record consistent with a career path leading to extramural funding as an independent investigator.
All candidates will be expected to maintain robust extramural funding, with federal funding as a cornerstone of their research program, and be actively engaged in strengthening the Henry Ford + MSU partnership.
Positions are jointly funded through Henry Ford + MSU. Candidates may be hired by Henry Ford Health or Michigan State University with a secondary, no‑pay appointment at the other institution. The primary academic appointment will depend on the candidate’s discipline, research, and interests. We are hiring at the ranks of assistant, associate, and senior scientist at Henry Ford and associate and full professor nical appointments are available for clinician scientists.
All positions are for the Detroit campus. Space, start‑up packages, salary, and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and rank.
Required Degree
- Doctorate degree in a biomedical science or related field.
Minimum Requirements
- PhD, MD, DO, DVM, ScD, DNP, or equivalent in biomedical science or related field.
- Track record of significant contributions to the field.
- Potential to establish a sustainable, internationally recognized research program.
- Evidence of effective mentorship for students, post‑docs, and colleagues.
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines and institutions.
- Interest in or evidence of institutional and professional service.
Desired Qualifications
- Additional research experience beyond the doctorate through post‑doctoral, industry, or faculty positions.
- Strong record of research accomplishments, including sustained extramural grant funding and high‑quality peer‑reviewed publications in the relevant field.
- Leadership roles in professional societies and organizations.
