The principal provides visionary, ethical, and strategic leadership for a Career and Technical Center, advancing the District's High School Redesign vision to ensure every student graduates with a plan, pathway, and purpose. The principal leads high-quality, future-focused CTE pathways that connect students to high-skill, high-demand, and high-wage careers.
The principal is accountable for instructional and program quality, student access and outcomes, talent development, operational and fiscal stewardship, compliance, and strategic partnerships that prepare students to earn industry-recognized credentials and successfully transition to postsecondary education, apprenticeship, and the workforce.
Minimum Qualifications- Master's Degree (inclusive of 20 semester hours in School Administration, Supervision, Curriculum, and School Finance)
- State of Michigan Administrator Certification
- Must possess a valid Michigan Teacher Certificate for the level being sought
- Previous experience as a CTE occupational teacher at the secondary or post-secondary level preferred
- Demonstrated successful experience in school leadership, instructional leadership, CTE, or career-connected learning.
- Experience supervising, coaching, and evaluating instructional staff.
- Previous experience as a CTE administrator, CTE occupational teacher, career center leader, or related career-connected learning leader.
- Knowledge of Michigan CTE/OCTE requirements, Perkins V, state-approved CTE programs, CTE funding and compliance, and CTE data and reporting systems.
- Experience developing partnerships with business, industry, labor, apprenticeship programs, and postsecondary institutions.
- Provide visionary, ethical, and accountable leadership for CTE programs, modeling integrity and sound professional judgment while establishing high expectations for student achievement, technical skill attainment, industry-recognized credentials, career readiness, and postsecondary success.
- Lead CTE teaching and learning by aligning curriculum, instruction, assessment, technical competencies, industry standards, credentials, work-based learning, and professional development.
- Drive continuous improvement using student achievement, enrollment, attendance, retention, completion, credential attainment, and program-quality data to improve outcomes and program relevance.
- Recruit, develop, evaluate, and retain high-quality CTE educators
, including appropriately certified or authorized professionals transitioning from industry into teaching. - Build a strong CTE student pipeline by expanding career awareness and exposure for middle school and grades 9-10 students and strengthening recruitment, transition, enrollment, retention, and completion across CTE pathways.
- Ensure compliance with Michigan state-approved CTE program requirements, Perkins V, CTEIS reporting, CIP Self-Review, TRAC, occupational licensing, and applicable state and federal requirements.
- Ensure CTE facilities and learning environments including laboratories, shops, equipment, technology, and materials; meet instructional, industry, safety, accessibility, and regulatory standards.
- Manage school and program resources in alignment with instructional priorities and District, Perkins, Section 61a(1), grant, and other applicable funding requirements.
- Build and sustain partnerships with employers, labor, apprenticeship programs, postsecondary institutions, advisory committees, and community organizations to strengthen program quality and expand career-connected and work-based learning opportunities.
- Lead school culture and operations
with integrity, transparency, accountability, and sound stewardship to ensure a safe, professional, student-centered environment reflective of workplace expectations. - Perform other duties as assigned.
