Job Type: Full-time

Overview

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer plays a critical role in advancing the facility’s environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and workplace health and safety programs. This position partners closely with leadership, operations, and external regulatory agencies to ensure the site not only meets—but exceeds—OSHA, MIOSHA, EPA, and state environmental standards. The Safety Engineer will serve as a technical resource, lead key EHS initiatives, and help strengthen the facility’s long-term safety and environmental stewardship culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead routine environmental compliance activities, including hazardous waste management, air permit compliance, wastewater monitoring, stormwater sampling, and SPCC program oversight.
  • Maintain and update environmental records, permits, and regulatory reports such as Tier II, TRI, waste manifests, and annual environmental certifications.
  • Conduct detailed environmental audits and risk assessments, identifying potential exposures and recommending corrective and preventive measures.
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, and recycling programs.
  • Oversee chemical inventory management, ensuring proper storage, labeling, secondary containment, and spill prevention. Coordinate environmental inspections by regulatory agencies and serve as a knowledgeable point of contact during audits.
  • Assist with root cause analysis for environmental events and drive corrective actions through closure.
  • Track and analyze environmental KPIs; proactively identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced safety inspections and risk assessments, including start-up reviews for new processes, equipment audits, and job hazard analyses.
  • Facilitate safety training programs such as new-hire orientations, annual compliance training, and specialized safety sessions (LOTO, mobile equipment, confined space, machine guarding).
  • Lead or support incident investigations, collect evidence including camera footage, perform root cause analyses, monitor corrective actions, and prepare final reports for leadership.
  • Maintain and continuously improve site EHS documentation, safety postings, evacuation maps, and regulatory records.
  • Manage PPE and safety supply inventories, vendor relationships, and the safety boot/uniform program.
  • Ensure reliable performance of critical life-safety systems through weekly and monthly inspections (eyewash stations, emergency showers, fire extinguishers, AEDs, and first-aid kits).
General EHS Responsibilities
  • Participate in and help lead weekly safety walkarounds, plant tours, and cross-functional hazard-spotting activities.
  • Analyze, compile, and present EHS metrics, trends, and performance dashboards to leadership teams.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and revision of EHS policies, procedures, work instructions, and training content.
  • Support the site in achieving and maintaining compliance with corporate EHS standards and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as a resource to supervisors, engineers, and operations staff on EHS-related technical questions and best practices.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and influence safe behaviors through coaching, support, and positive engagement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in industrial or manufacturing EHS roles, with a strong foundation in environmental compliance programs.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, EPA, and state/local environmental regulations.
  • Experience preparing, analyzing, and presenting environmental and safety data to leaders, teams, or regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to navigate and inspect large, industrial environments; must be able to lift 40+ pounds.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • MIOSHA certification, HAZWOPER, CPR/First Aid/AED certifications preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Strong organizational, follow-through, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Driven, self-directed, and eager to grow into increasingly advanced EHS responsibilities.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.
  • Opportunities for professional development, including MIOSHA Level 1 certification and additional EHS training.
  • Clear pathways for advancement into more senior EHS roles.
  • A collaborative culture focused on continuous improvement, compliance excellence, and environmental responsibility.
