Overview

This position will work in the field of mechanical engineering on water resource projects including power, water, wastewater and light industrial type projects. Candidacy requires strong computer, writing and communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. The role is on our turbine team, focusing on hydraulic turbines, speed governors, synchronous generators, turbine shut‑off valves, ancillary equipment and coordination with water, oil and air balance‑of‑plant mechanical systems.

Some travel is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct interpretations of drawings, codes and other materials.
  • Design for the mechanical discipline using relevant software tools.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines under the direction of a senior engineer/designer.
  • Perform field work as directed by a senior engineer/designer.
  • Perform calculations to analyze and design individual mechanical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Assist with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.
  • Perform planning studies, detailed analyses and designs related to hydro‑mechanical equipment for hydroelectric power plants.
  • Prepare technical specifications for procurement, design and installation of turbine‑generators, auxiliary systems and plant systems.
  • Perform procurement analysis and design review of hydro‑mechanical systems.
  • Perform condition and risk assessment of power plant mechanical equipment.
  • Perform technical reviews of vendor drawings, calculations, procedures and reports.
  • Provide site support for equipment commissioning and testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.
Capabilities & Credentials
  • Understanding of drafting/design tools such as AutoCAD.
  • Ability to lead, participate and collaborate in project team settings.
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and effective communication.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings and similar material.
  • Experience with manufacturing methods, NDE and shop inspections of hydro‑mechanical equipment.
  • Hydro engineering experience with turbines, governing systems, gates, hoists, bulkheads and cranes.
  • Experience in turbine‑generator, valve equipment design and related calculations.
  • Experience with FEA, CFD and 3‑D modeling programs (plus).
  • Experience with risk assessment, ranking and life‑cycle costing of mechanical equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated strength in written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of power plant health and safety requirements, PPE and equipment costs.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred). PE preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–7 years of experience.
  • Typical office environment with computer work; field work may involve inclement weather and confined spaces.
  • Travel typically 10–20% of time.
Salary / Pay Range
  • Locations in CO, HI, IL MD & various CA, NJ areas – Min $82,600 | Max $119,800.

Pay Transparency:
In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Actual compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience and work location. Certain roles are bonus eligible.

Benefits Summary

Regular full‑time and part‑time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, vision plans, wellness program, 401(k), stock purchase program, life insurance, disability plans and paid family leave. Employees accrue 10 paid holidays and accrue 10–20 days of vacation per year with paid sick leave. Partial‑time employees receive similar benefits per state and local laws. Union positions governed by collective bargaining agreements may have different benefits.
