They are seeking a dynamic and detail‑oriented General Accountant / Financial Analyst to join their finance team and help drive financial clarity and operational efficiency.
This position will start as a Contract‑to‑Hire role, on‑site in downtown Detroit 5‑days‑a‑week.
Position SummaryThe General Accountant / Financial Analyst will play a key role in supporting the organization’s financial operations, reporting, and analysis. This individual will be responsible for special projects for the CFO including maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and documenting policies and procedures. The ideal candidate is energetic, resourceful, and thrives in a fast‑paced, purpose‑driven environment.
Key Responsibilities- Update policies and procedures for CFO department.
- As directed by the CFO analyze financial data and trends to support budgeting and forecasting activities and other special projects.
- Support compliance and external audits by providing documentation and analysis.
- Utilize ERP systems for financial and compliance reporting, including data management.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation.
- Prepare ad‑hoc reports and financial models as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Must have a CPA (or have plans to get one.)
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in accounting or financial analysis.
- Experience with at least one ERP system (Yardi preferred.)
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas, etc.)
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Tech‑savvy with the ability to quickly learn new systems and tools.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Positive, can‑do attitude with a collaborative mindset.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
- Experience in a nonprofit or mission‑driven organization.
- Knowledge of GAAP and financial compliance standards.
- Local Detroit‑area candidates only will be considered.
