The Cost Analyst will provide project controls and cost management support for the PMO Distribution Operations team. This consultant will be responsible for monitoring project financial performance, forecasting, budget management, schedule alignment, resource planning, and variance analysis across a portfolio of capital and construction projects.
This role is located in Detroit, MI on a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite, 2 days remote). Cost Analyst Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Finance, Accounting, Math, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field with 3+ years of relevant project experience
Experience with cost analysis, project controls, or project financial management Experience working with SAP, Primavera P6, and/or IBM Maximo Experience analyzing project budgets, actual costs, commitments, forecasts, invoices, purchase orders, and financial data Understanding of project cost forecasting, budget variance analysis, earned value concepts, and financial reporting
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data manipulation, reconciliation, and reporting
Ability to work effectively with Project Managers, contractors, cross-functional teams, and senior leadership
Cost Analyst Responsibilities:
Track project budgets, actual costs, commitments, forecasts, and variances using SAP and project forecasting tools
Prepare weekly cost forecasts and monthly budget variance reports
Monitor project schedule and construction progress using Primavera P6 and Maximo Analyze project financials, invoices, purchase orders, work orders, and unbilled liabilities
Develop and maintain project checkbooks to support cost forecasting and resource planning
Support procurement, estimating, and project controls activities
Partner with Project Managers and contractors to monitor project performance and schedule adherence
Prepare cost and schedule reports for project and management reviews
Present project financial performance, variances, forecasts, and key risks to management and stakeholders
Provide clear and concise variance explanations and financial insights to Project Managers, management, and executive stakeholders.
