Overview
Under direction, responsible for performing a variety of medical and dental front office administrative tasks essential for managing the business aspects of the practice. Will be cross trained on both front desk operating elements - medical and dental.
Duties, functions and responsibilities- Answers telephone to schedule appointments, provide information, and take messages, screen and forward calls.
- Greets patients, explains services, billing procedures, costs for services etc.
- Schedules appointments, in accordance with dental/medical office policies and procedures.
- Assists patients filling out forms for initial intake data as well as yearly updates.
- Enters billing and collection data into the computer, verifying the insurance and obtaining authorization as needed.
- Retrieves charts and other patient information as required.
- Files lab reports, forms and other documents in the patients’ dental/medical record in accordance with standard format.
- Sets up new dental/medical charts and accounts as needed.
- Enters provider schedules and makes changes as necessary, in the practice management system.
- Performs all front office, medical record room, or billing office activities as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Verify insurance enrollment and procedural eligibility
- Submit prior authorizations for procedures as needed
- Knowledge of the principles and processes for providing good customer service.
- Knowledge regarding laws related to HIPAA, patient and employer confidentiality.
- Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office and dental/medical practice management/billing software.
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Skill in communicating effectively with the public and other employees.
- Graduation from an accredited technical school or three years progressively responsible experience in a medical/dental office setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Formal computer training or equivalent work experience.
- Must be able to hear and speak clearly in order to communicate information to clients and staff.
- Must be able to have vision adequate to read documents, a computer screen, registration forms and other clinic documents.
- Manual dexterity; the ability to lift at least 20 pounds; and the ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Understands dental/medical terminology and anatomy.
- Understands insurance and patient billing and reimbursement.
- Must provide own vehicle for local travel.
- May be required to travel to other sites for shift coverage.
