Patient Advocate Representative – Detroit Receiving

Join Conifer Health Solutions as a Patient Advocate Representative at Detroit Receiving. Your role will involve screening patients at the bedside for eligibility in various governmental and non‑governmental programs, identifying potential payors, and assisting patients in completing the Confidential Financial Statement form.

Job Summary

Responsible for screening self‑pay patients at hospital bedside for eligibility in multiple programs, identifying all potential payors, routing accounts appropriately, and assisting patients with applying for benefits.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conduct interviews with patients and/or family members.
  • Record and maintain complete documentation of account activities during the patient accounting cycle.
  • Perform financial clearance functions, including collections, cancel accounts lacking cooperation or eligibility, and prepare accounts for financial assistance review.
  • Follow up on assigned accounts to ensure government application follow‑through and communicate eligibility progress.
  • Conduct field visits to patient homes for skip‑tracing or assistance with documentation.
  • Notify hospital case management, social services, and admissions staff of screening determinations and outcomes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working familiarity with federal, state, and county program regulations.
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail‑oriented with multitasking across multiple facilities and platforms.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks efficiently.
  • Bi‑lingual preferred (Spanish).
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in social services, hospital admitting, or a related area.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.
  • Ability to walk throughout hospital environments and visit patients at bedside.
  • Ability to travel if required.
Work Environment
  • Both hospital and office facilities; direct contact with patients and staff.
Additional Requirements
  • Some travel may be required.
