DescriptionOur Ophthalmology Assistants primarily work at our Maywood campus (Loyola). However, they may also be asked to provide coverage at other locations when needed, including:
- Burr Ridge
- Hickory Hills
- Oakbrook Terrace

Provide comprehensive patient care including specialized ophthalmic testing, triage, and patient teaching. Perform basic and routine eye examination procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and problems. Explain diagnostic and treatment procedures to patients.
Minimum EducationRequired:
Associate’s Degree OR equivalent training acquired via work experience or education. Specify Degree(s):
Ophthalmic Technician Program.
Required:
Less than one year of previous job‑related experience.
Possess demonstrated knowledge and hands‑on experience in manual refraction and applanation tonometry to support comprehensive ophthalmic care.
Preferred:
At least one (1) year of previous job‑related experience, highly preferred.
None upon hire.
After graduation from an ophthalmic technician education course, staff in the Ophthalmic Assistant position are required to become certified ophthalmic assistants within the first year of employment.
Other RequirementsApplicants for this position must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor an employment visa for this position.
CompensationPay Range: $21.54 - $28.14 per hour. Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
