Job Summary / Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provide direct rehabilitative patient care to patients at a variety of rehabilitation locations.
  • Travel to various sites, as needed, and evaluate and treat patients in accordance with rehabilitation department and respective site policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate patient status by observing patient and administering/interpreting a variety of tests. Tests may include measurement of motor and neurological capabilities, psychological and social functioning, cognitive skills, and neuromuscular functioning.
  • Develop treatment plans based on assessment of patient needs, analysis of medical history from test performance and records, and goals established in conjunction with the patient, family and physician.
  • Administer treatment plans using therapeutic activities, procedures and/or modalities for remediation and compensation of patient deficits.
  • Recommend adaptive devices and/or durable medical equipment as needed, and instruct patients/families in the use of rehabilitative equipment. Assist patients in rehabilitative exercise programs as needed.
  • Document patient treatments, initial evaluation, therapeutic progress notes and discharge summaries in accordance with departmental policies and service line protocols.
  • Attend interdisciplinary meetings and various conferences to report on patients' progress; consult regularly with site/service line team members regarding patient treatment.
  • Be responsible for the organization and maintenance of equipment and supplies in the treatment area; recommend the purchase of supplies and/or equipment as needed. May collaborate with and mentor other employees, as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Three to five years of experience in occupational therapy to acquire the skills necessary to treat a variety of patients at various locations.
  • Current license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Michigan.
  • Initial certification with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
