This position is a full‑time role focused on providing ATC services to the professional soccer team, and during the off‑season supporting the outpatient physical therapy orthopedic clinic.
Team coverage includes injury prevention, emergency response, and rehabilitation during practices, games, and travel. The ATC works as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with coaches and medical staff.
Key Responsibilities- Supporting return‑to‑play protocols, assisting with performance‑related tasks, maintaining records and performing administrative tasks.
- Limited traveling with the team will be required.
- During the off‑season, support the busy orthopedic therapy clinic at the Rehabilitation Institute of MI Brasza Outpatient Center in downtown Detroit.
- While at the RIM Brasza outpatient clinic, under the general supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist and according to established policies and procedures, develop and administer established treatment plans for physical therapy patients.
- At the direction of management, independently develop training and fitness programs.
- Orient and mentor other trainers; independently schedule clients or programs and assist management with the marketing of programs.
- In collaboration with the Physical Therapist, develop exercise programs—including therapeutic pool programs and sports injury therapy programs—and assess patient progress through the program.
- Develop and administer community service projects, including personal health clinics on topics such as stretching before sports activities and the importance of aerobic exercise, and deliver programs to schools, community centers, and on‑site staff.
- Work with the Physical Therapist to develop/perform treatment programs such as gait training/therapeutic exercise programs/physical therapy modalities, provide appropriate assessment/documentation of patient progress, and perform patient billing procedures.
- Prepare and monitor equipment such as hydrotherapy tanks, paraffin baths and hot packs, and perform minor repairs on equipment as needed.
- Instruct and prepare patients for treatment, report patient progress to the Physical Therapist, and orient and instruct trainers, students and volunteers.
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited Athletic Trainer Certified Program, with a current NATA Board of Certification Inc. certification.
- License to practice as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Michigan as of 1/1/11.
- Three years of experience, with a minimum of one year in a clinical setting.
- Completed Level 2 of Sports Medicine curriculum.
- Minimum of 60 points in the professional development category of the performance appraisal with a minimum of 16 hours of outreach across a minimum of 6 outreach events.
