Pay Range

$18.85 - $28.30

Major Responsibilities
  • Clean/disinfects assigned area(s) by washing walls, doors, door frames, ceilings, patient televisions, windows, furniture, tile, fixtures, appliances, floors, and equipment with appropriate cleaning solutions using procedures and following schedules specific to each item.
  • Operates various equipment following department procedures.
  • Uses chemicals and solutions following department policy.
  • Keeps work areas in orderly, clean and safe condition.
  • Clean all assigned areas utilizing the established department procedures.
  • Replenishes supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissues, soap, etc.; picks up additional supplies from the environmental services storeroom when needed.
  • Routinely collects waste; sanitizes all garbage cans.
  • Observes and follows Standard (Universal) Precautions, Infection Control Policies, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Washes hands thoroughly throughout the day; follows and adheres to Hospital handwash policy.
  • Prepares detergents, germicidal solutions and other cleaning/disinfecting solutions according to established formulas.
  • Sweeps, dust mops, and wet mop floor areas and spot cleans carpets using appropriate solutions; shampoos furniture, carpets and rugs as required.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to satisfying customer needs and exceeding customer expectations.
  • Utilizes AIDET in interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Identifies and resolves interpersonal conflicts constructively; maintains a positive, tactful attitude with patients, families and staff in emergencies and non-emergencies.
  • Presents the department positively to all contacts and maintains courteous and pleasant demeanor.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and departmental information and follows appropriate chain of command for resolving complaints, grievances or problems.
Specific Cleaning/Discharge Procedures
  • When patients are discharged, thoroughly washes and sanitizes beds and prepares rooms with clean linen; cleans entire room and washroom following established procedures.
  • Uses appropriate germicide for disinfecting rooms.
  • Moves equipment and furniture for cleaning; reports safety hazards and returns unused supplies to storage in an orderly manner.
  • Collects and manages linens and waste as required; sorts regular and recyclable trash according to procedure.
Education/Experience & Skills
  • Education/Experience

    Required:

    High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Required:

    Able to operate small electrical equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners); excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate effectively in English for performance of essential job activities; reading and understanding chemical labels and safety materials
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Job responsibilities involve walking, standing, bending, climbing and lifting throughout the work day. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds, use lifting equipment or lift with at least one other associate when available. Unique lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case by case basis.
