Job SummaryThe Night Auditor is responsible for balancing the revenue and expense transactions that occurred during the day at the hotel and for overseeing the overall operations and appearance of the front desk. Additionally, the Night Auditor attends to the needs of guests, especially during check‑in and check‑out.
Duties/Responsibilities- Providing information to guests about hotel policies, services, and amenities.
- Responding to requests from guests for assistance and information about the local area (e.g., directions, places to eat, etc.).
- Selling and upselling rooms to “walk‑in” customers.
- Partnering with the sales department to ensure knowledge of key accounts and groups, along with tracking of company information.
- Entering or changing reservation information on the computer system.
- Posting charges to guest accounts.
- Processing payments from guests.
- Closing, balancing, and making necessary corrections to guest accounts.
- Counting and balancing cash, credit cards, and direct bill accounts.
- Analyzing out‑of‑balance situations and adjusting or correcting as needed.
- Completing various computer audit reports.
- Listening for or anticipating and responding to guest complaints.
- Operating the hotel switchboard or PBX. Use an established greeting when answering the phone or meeting guests in person.
- Cleaning the front desk and lobby area.
- Maintaining daily logs.
- Balancing shift work and cash drawers.
- Reporting any potential safety or security hazards to management immediately.
- At times, cleaning guest rooms.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including dealing with difficult and rude patrons.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with the local area, with the ability to provide directions and maps to local attractions and destinations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Prior hospitality experience preferred.
- Prolonged periods standing and walking and frequently pulling, pushing, and bending.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk.
- Must be able to lift fifty pounds at a time.
- Requires standing for extended periods of time and being able to reach approximately forty‑eight inches in height.
