We are supporting a confidential search for a Human Resources Advisor with a PE-backed, environmentally-minded, civil and architectural engineering firm in the midst of a transformative phase. This is a chance to help innovate the HR function at a forward-thinking company with about 450 US employees.
The Human Resources Advisor has both administrative and strategic responsibilities, assisting People & Culture with daily operations and initiatives while also providing support and guidance to employees and managers as required. This role supports employees and leadership by delivering expert guidance on HR matters, ensuring alignment with company goals, and helping to implement strategic projects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops, adjusts, and applies human resources policies and procedures in accordance with applicable state employment regulations and industry best practices.
- Offers consistent guidance and support to staff and management on employee relations concerns, escalating complex issues as appropriate.
- Administers programs related to leave of absence (e.g., FMLA, ADA), short-term disability, and workers' compensation, ensuring compliance with relevant laws.
- Acts as a resource for employees during benefits enrollment and other related activities, delivering clear and helpful communication on available options.
- Partners with colleagues across the People & Culture function and Shared Services to ensure streamlined HR processes and strong cross-functional collaboration.
- Keeps informed of changes and trends in employment law, HR regulations, and workplace culture developments.
- Advises managers on performance reviews, coaching, and employee development plans.
- Maintains accurate and compliant HR records using the organization’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
- Prepares HR reports and data analytics to support decision-making and program evaluation.
- Conducts internal investigations involving workplace concerns, safety, or policy violations.
- Delivers in-house training sessions on human resources topics and practices.
- Coordinates all aspects of employee departures, including conducting exit interviews, preparing separation documentation, and ensuring a smooth offboarding process.
- Supports initiatives related to Total Rewards education and communication.
- Uses sound judgement and analytical skills to identify issues, recommend solutions, and support HR-related projects.
- Provides coaching to managers during the rollout of new HR programs and tools.
- Promotes and models the organization's values and workplace culture.
- Performs additional HR-related tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
- 3–5 years of experience in a comprehensive HR generalist role; experience in consulting, engineering, or other professional services environments preferred.
- Experience supporting HR needs across multiple U.S. states is required.
- Ability to travel up to 25%.
- Bachelor's degree required; HR certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proactive, team-oriented, and adaptable, with the ability to manage priorities in a dynamic setting.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with HRIS platforms such as UKG is beneficial.
- Familiarity with payroll and benefits practices is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in leading group discussions and presentations.
