Join Canonical to lead automation and reliability for our IT production services serving over 60 million Ubuntu users.

We are hiring a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer to join the Information Systems (IS) team. This role is ideal for an automation‑first technologist passionate about Linux, Infrastructure as Code, and open‑source tooling. You will drive operations automation across our private and public cloud environments, improve the resilience of our cloud and container portfolio, and contribute to Canonical’s SDLC through feedback, bug reports, and pull requests.

• Key Responsibilities
• Apply IaC experience to develop and improve infrastructure-as-code practices within IS.
• Automate software operations for reuse and consistency across private and public clouds.
• Develop new features and improve the resilience and scalability of cloud and container services.
• Maintain operational responsibility for Canonical’s core services, networks, and infrastructure.
• Setup and maintain observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch; design and implement monitoring and alerting.
• Collaborate with development teams on service architecture, documentation, playbooks, policies, and operational procedures.
• Assist globally distributed engineering, operations, and support peers.
• Allocate uninterrupted development time for automation and larger projects.
• Mentor and share best practices in design sessions and collaborative work.
• Own final responsibility for time‑critical escalations.

• Required Qualifications
• Deep experience defining operations in code with version control, peer review, and CI/CD.
• Strong background in modern engineering practices (peer‑review, unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, Agile).
• Python development experience in large projects.
• Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
• Affinity with Linux storage solutions, from Ceph to databases.
• Hands‑on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
• Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
• Bachelor’s degree or greater in computer science or related field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
• Motivation to troubleshoot across the stack and willingness to seek help when needed.
• Flexibility and rapid learning mindset.
• Passion for open‑source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
