Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest's oldest and most respected law firms, is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant to join our Detroit office. We are looking for an experienced and motivated legal assistant to provide high-level support to two partners within our torts & litigation and professional liability practice groups. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the attorney offices by updating their calendars, scheduling court appearances, depositions, hearings, preparing legal documents, e-filing, as well as other legal assistant tasks.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide comprehensive legal administrative support to attorneys across multiple practice areas.
- Manage document preparation, filing (electronic and paper), scheduling, pre-bills and billing.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date case files and docketing records.
- Answer phones, handle correspondence, and provide general administrative support.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local court rules, including e-filing and electronic docketing.
- Work collaboratively with other assistants and firm staff to ensure seamless operations across offices.
To be considered for this role, you must:
- Have 5 to 7 years of experience in a legal assistant role, with a strong background in litigation preferably in a law firm environment.
- Preferably have experience in professional liability, product liability, torts, motor vehicle negligence and commercial litigation.
- Be proficient in legal document preparation, file and case management, scheduling, dictation, and billing procedures.
- Have a working knowledge of electronic court filing systems and docketing software.
- E-File in state and federal court (preferred).
- Be highly familiar with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and document management systems (preferably iManage).
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and multitask in a deadline-driven environment.
